Melatonin is a supplement - a hormone that will make you sleepy. It is naturally present in your body. It’s usually prescribed to people who have problems with the timings of their sleep - if they can’t get to sleep until 6am and then they sleep in until 3pm. That is not insomnia, that is someone who has a very shifted sleep cycle.
Whilst there is a small amount of research into the effects of melatonin on sleep, it is only in specific cases that it might do something to support your sleep.
There is no real evidence that it can fix Chronic Insomnia. It is going to be really difficult to come across some kind of medication, something artificial that you are putting into your body, that is going to fix a problem that you are maintaining through certain consistent behaviours.
The only way to really get out of that behaviour is to consistently perform other positive behaviours - retrain your brain to sleep.
